AFIRM RSL Seminar on November 15, 2012

The Apparel and Footwear International RSL Management Group (AFIRM) is a recognized global center of excellence, providing resources for sustainable, self-governing RSL implementation across the apparel and footwear supply chain. This year more than 300 participants from different countries attended the annual event, including attendees from Adidas, Esprit, Gap, H&M, Hugo Boss, Levi’s, New Balance, Nike, Puma, VF, and Warnaco. Topics covered in the AFIRM RSL Seminar included RSL Guidance List, Factory Chemical Management Plans, Chemical Guidance Documents, Screen Print Facilities Best and Worst Practices, NRDC Responsible Sourcing Initiative, RSL Corrective Actions, Advancing Safer Chemical Alternatives and Green Chemistry. Representatives of international buyers presented  “Restricted Substances List in Supply Chain Management” and “Product Safety Regulation & Environmental Compliance Standards”. The AFIRM RSL seminar is recognized as a business platform for discussing current challenges and solutions in order to continually develop best practices for the industry, and ensure the quality and performance needs as well as compliance with international, industry and regulation standard worldwide.

EU Regulation and Update Seminar on November 13, 2012

The EU is a potential and challenging market to many textile and footwear factories. Prior to the AFIRM event, SGS Vietnam held a seminar to introduce the EU Regulations and trends for both Footwear and Apparel suppliers in order for them to become familiar with the compliance requirements for exporting to EU market.

Dr. Helmut Krause, Global Director of Restricted Substances Testing Services (RSTS) for SGS, participated as the lead speaker to bring insights on the strategic development of Restricted Substances Management in consumer products. The seminar was well-received by the participants for his expertise and far-reaching experience and detailed information about chemical substances, chemical tests for Footwear, Management in the Supplier Chain, REACH Penalties as well as product recall case studies.
