The Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association (JPMA) has announced its next-generation certification program for advancing the safety of nursery products and baby gear, and has appointed SGS as the administrator, principal independent testing laboratory and inspection agency for the certification program.

JPMA is a national trade organization representing 250 companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico that manufacture, import and/or distribute infant products such as cribs, car seats, strollers, bedding, and a wide range of accessories and decorative items. The new program, JPMA Certification 2.0, provides manufacturers with a comprehensive and turnkey testing program designed to ensure they are meeting safety measures and approved government standards at both the state and federal levels.

As the designated Program Administrator and Principal Lab, SGS brings to bear its expertise and experience verifying the quality, compliance, and safety of child care products across global supply chains. SGS will oversee matters pertaining to pre-market certification, the scheduling of field tests, sample collection, and will perform the tests of product samples globally to check for compliance with JPMA Certification 2.0.

“With JPMA Certification 2.0, we are renewing our commitment to helping manufacturers ensure they are meeting safety requirements and helping to increase consumer confidence in juvenile products,” said Michael Dwyer CAE, Executive Director of JPMA. “By partnering with SGS as our principal laboratory and program administrator, we feel confident we are providing participants with the most thorough testing regimen that will, among other benefits, result in time and cost efficiencies when bringing products to market.”

“We are honored to be a part of JPMA’s certification program. SGS has been a JPMA member for  14 years and is a long-time proponent of its dedication to enhancing children’s product safety. We look forward to working with manufacturers, retailers and JPMA on the new program,” said Nicolas Bacheré, SGS V.P., Global Toys and Juvenile Products.
