On the 5th of December 2008, a new legislation related to soil and groundwater protection has been voted in Wallonia (Belgium). This "Decree related to the soil management" came into force on the 18th of May 2009.

Owners of "Contaminated Land" or of a site that historically hosted risk activities will face, in the future, obligations linked to "Soil & Groundwater" protection.

Depending on the age of the contamination (before or after the 30th of April 2007), the Walloon Administration will react very differently, leading to more severe remediation goals in case of a new pollution.

It is then crucial and urgent to state rapidly the historical side of a land's contamination. Contact SGS for realizing a first assessment of your activity's impact on the soil and the groundwater.

Due to its long expertise, SGS can assist you in facing any obligation linked to this new legislation, from an orientation study to the remediation process.
