SGS Wind Energy successfully attended the European Wind Energy Conference (EWEC) 2009 in Marseille, France. With over 7,500 participants and 390 exhibitors, EWEC is one of the most important Conferences of Wind Energy in Europe.

The Wind Energy Conference enabled SGS to exhibit its extensive services in the field of wind technology and to inform clients about new services. Torsten Muuß, SGS Global Technical Manager Wind Energy held a presentation about “Condition Monitoring of Wind Turbines” at the SGS exhibition booth. The presentation was followed by talks between wind turbine owners and project developers. One common element to arise from these discussions was the demand in the market place for a complete package of Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring.

During the Wind Energy Conference, SGS also launched a new service called: SGS Life-Cycle-Services for the wind energy sector. This SGS service already starts with the support in the conceptual phase of the wind project and continues with the site and design assessment, followed by the manufacturing surveys and lastly by the monitoring of the transport and installation of the turbines. Included in this and of great importance is the commissioning and operation phase, where SGS offers different types of services.
Another important focus point at the exhibition included Rotor Blade Inspections, as a lot of blade problems had recently occurred. Especially turbine manufactures have a need to get the blades inspected by SGS inspectors. This inspection is not a visual but more an ultra sonic inspection. SGS already carries out this kind of inspections on a regular basis to the highest standard.

In conclusion, the feedback SGS received from the participants at EWEC was very encouraging. SGS has already entered into the next stage of negotiations with some important clients which involves discussing the scope of concrete projects and the timeline for start.

SGS Wind Energy Services works as an independent project surveyor and offers verification, inspection, supervision, testing and certification services worldwide for onshore and offshore wind farm projects. Through providing experienced staff and technical epertise in the wind technology SGS means to improve trust in wind farm projects and secures high quality of wind farms.
