SGS Consultancy Agreement with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) selects SGS as one of the service providers under the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP).

The SONCAP is an offshore program under which intended imports of SON regulated products have to be tested by an approved laboratory abroad to ensure compliance with Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS) and/or other International Standards. If the products are compliant SGS can issue a Product Certificate which is required by the importer for the opening of his Import Application (Form M) prior to shipment of the goods to Nigeria. Thereafter each shipment of goods covered by the Product Certificate has to be verified and covered by a SONCAP Certificate as one of the documents required for import clearance of the goods in Nigeria.

The participation of SGS, with its global network of offices and laboratories, should lead to a strengthening of the SONCAP to protect Nigeria against imports of sub-standard and dangerous goods whilst facilitating trade through improved levels of service.

SGS has Conformity Assessment Service mandates, similar to that of SONCAP, with the Governments of Kenya, Kuwait, India, Indonesia, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
