After establishing a Non-Destructive Testing Training Center in Shanghai last year, SGS opened jointly with GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies a state-of-the art NDT Application Center.

As the demand for high quality inspection services in China is continuing to increase, SGS and GE addressed this need by providing the opportunity for Chinese industrial clients to use the services of the highly trained inspectors from SGS, with the most up-to-date inspection equipment by GE in Shanghai. The two partners will also join forces to facilitate the upgrading of various Chinese NDT standards.

SGS-CSTC, a Chinese joint venture of the SGS Group, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, offers Non-Destructive Testing and Training Services in China while GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies is the world’s leading manufacturer of NDT inspection equipment.

Charlene Begley, President & CEO of GE Enterprise Solutions, and Jack Kuo, Director of SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Service Co. Ltd, officially opened the NDT Application Center on the 25th of February 2009.

The Application Center is located in Kongqiao Industrial Zone in Pudong New Area of Shanghai, and is equipped with GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies’ comprehensive NDT instruments and equipment such as ultrasonic flaw detectors, eddy current flaw detectors, spot-welding detectors, x-ray real-time inspection systems and digital inspection systems, computed-radiography system, microfocus x-ray system and industrial CT system.

Non-Destructive Testing plays an important role in the quality control of welding and industrial parts, and safety assurance of pressure vessels and pipelines. It is used in a wide range of industries, including metallurgy, oil and gas, power generation, aerospace, and transportation. With increasingly elevated requirements of quality, efficiency and safety in China, the market demand for NDT products and services is huge. In the past few years, the NDT businesses of both GE and SGS achieved remarkable growth in China, sharing a common localization growth strategy.

At the opening ceremony, Charlene Begley expressed her appreciation to SGS leaders for being a loyal customer and partner to GE, and she expressed her full confidence in GE’s NDT business prospects in China, and hoped the Application Center will set a good example for further cooperation between the two companies.
