Iraq - SGS Mandate

Iraq’s Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) requires that regulated imported products meet the requirements of Iraq’s Pre-Importation Inspection, Testing and Certification scheme. SGS product conformity assessment services deliver Certificates of Conformity (CoC) for qualifying products allowing their importation.

The COQSC implemented the scheme in 2011 in order to enforce the provisions of the COQSC Act 1983. Its aim is to:

• Protect consumers, producers, public safety, the environment and the national economy from substandard products
• Restrict the import of inferior, debased and fake goods

Product categories that fall within the remit of this legislation include:

• Food and agricultural goods
• Chemical and household goods
• Construction related materials goods
• Consumer goods
• Toys and childcare products
• Electrical and electronics products
• Vehicles and spare parts
