United States - 27/12/07 SGS North America with the support of the Wind Competence Center has performed consultancy and inspection services for Acciona Windpower. The Spanish company is one of the largest developers and owners of wind farms in the world. We first performed Health & Safety related consultancy work for Acciona’s Tatanka wind farm (located on the border between North and South Dakota) in the USA, followed by an on-site inspection to verify compliance with OSHA regulations. The work done for Acciona Windpower is the second wind energy project SGS has performed in the USA. The first project was on-site construction supervision during the erection of wind turbines for GAMESA’s Mesquite Wind farm, located in Abilene, Texas. For this project SGS had a full-time inspector during 3 months. At the end of November we won a contract for startup and commissioning services for WE Energies (Electricity and Natural Gas utility operating in the Midwest of the USA). As part of this contract we will be performing a 2-3 week survey during January 2008 at their first wind farm in the USA, the Blue Sky Green Field wind farm located in Wisconsin. Recently about 40 SGS participants attended a Technical Wind Power Training in Hamburg. This was the third Technical Wind Power training course held by the Competence Center Wind Energy within one year. The two previous ones were held in China and in India. SGS holds now a team of 120 trained inspectors in China, India and Europe enabling us to assign them to international projects in the near future.
