Loading Master, On-Hires and Off-Hires

SGS is the world leader in marine logistics and trade services. Our marine services are globally standardized and administered, and our loading masters and inspectors are well respected at ports and terminals around the world. Loading master and on-hires and off-hires are two services SGS provides for the shipping and commercial transport industry.

Loading Master

An SGS loading master represents you and your interests during loading and unloading at any port or terminal in the world. He is your key link between the vessel, terminal operators and third party surveyors. Our loading masters are effective because they have a thorough understanding of local shore operations and procedures. Our independent local loading masters have extensive experience in marine logistics and are backed by SGS’s global network.

SGS offers outstanding capabilities in a number of functions including:

  • Supervising loading and unloading operations to ensure these operations are carried out in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensuring that safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Managing berth time
  • Verifying that all environmental laws and regulations are followed
  • Completing all paperwork and documentation
  • Keeping you informed of the progress of your shipment and notifying you of any potential problems

On-Hires and Off-Hires

Whether you are the owner or the charterer, it is critical to have sound, reputable documentation of the condition of a vessel at the beginning and conclusion of a charter agreement. This information is crucial in the event of a dispute over the condition and maintenance of the vessel following a charter term.

SGS’s experienced marine surveyors represent you. They inspect your vessel prior to the commencement of the charter. They examine the equipment on board and document its condition and state of maintenance. At the end of the charter, he re-examines the vessel and documents any noteworthy changes. Detailed reports are then given to all parties involved in the charter. The report can be a key piece of independent evidence that can protect your interests in the case of a dispute over the maintenance state or condition of a vessel at the conclusion of a charter.

Independent loading master and on- & off-hires are commercial carrier inspection services offered by SGS, the trusted market leader in bulk cargo trade services.
