Recruitment Process

Our recruitment process is designed to enable us to select creative, innovative people who have passion and potential. We make our selection based on a combination of your skills, competencies, experience and motivation.

We use a systematic approach for selecting candidates and we conduct competency-based interviews. We also guarantee that when you apply for a job at SGS, you can be sure that your application will be treated confidentially and impartially.

What to expect at each stage of the recruitment process

Stage one: Career opportunity and application

On our career pages, you will have the opportunity to browse through a variety of jobs (across geographical areas, industries or corporate functions) and identify the role that best suits your qualifications and career aspirations.

Once you have submitted your CV and covering letter online, we will acknowledge receipt of your application by email and advise you as to the outcome of your application.

Stage two: Initial telephone interview

If your profile matches what we are looking for, a member of our recruitment team will contact you. If necessary, an initial telephone interview will be arranged to enable us to find out more about you.

Stage three: First-round interviews

If we consider that you are a potential candidate for the position, you will be invited to attend face-to-face interviews.

You will be interviewed by a panel consisting of HR professionals and business lines or Corporate functions representatives, including the hiring manager. The aim of this interview is to understand your career interests, your educational background, skills, competencies and experience, and what motivates you to succeed at work.

During those interviews, you will be asked specific questions about those competencies (both technical and behavioral) which are linked to the core job requirements. We will also ask you to give concrete examples of specific situations which you have encountered, how you dealt with them and the final outcomes you achieved.

These interviews will focus solely on your professional capabilities. We want to hear about your previous experiences, challenges and accomplishments. This will also be a chance for you to ask questions and to find out if this is the right job for you.

Stage four: Assessments

We may invite you to participate in a short psychometric assessment which allows us to better understand your motivation and how you behave at work.

In some cases, we may further invite you to attend an assessment day during which you will complete various aptitude tests. These assessments test a variety of capabilities including numerical skills, non-verbal reasoning, teamwork and presentation skills.

While no hiring decision is made solely on the basis of these tests, they form part of the overall recruitment process and provide us with another source of objective information with which to assess candidates.

Second-round interviews:

Should you complete the first round successfully, you will be invited to participate in a second round of interviews. At this stage, you will meet with a selection panel, including an HR representative, the hiring manager and her/his direct supervisor. These interviews will enable both you and SGS to assess the potential for future collaboration and for you to get an additional insight into what working with us is like.

Reference check

You will be asked for details of your past employment. We will ask your referees to answer questions about your previous work performance, your skills and behavior at work.

Selection decision and offer

Our selection panel will identify the most qualified candidate for the post.

Once you have been selected for the role, your HR representative will send you a comprehensive employment offer and will answer your questions. Human resources and your line manager will remain in close contact with you until your first day at SGS.

Should you not be selected for a specific role, please do not be discouraged. Your qualifications may well match other job openings in future, and we invite all previous applicants to check this site frequently for new career opportunities.

Induction

You will participate in the structured SGS induction program, which aims to help all new employees settle into their roles in a way that sets them up for success and allows them to become productive members of the company as quickly as possible.
