Syria - SGS Mandate

Since 2010 the Syrian Arab Standards and Metrology Organization (SASMO) has required imported products, in certain categories, to be inspected against relevant Syrian or international standards.

At SGS we offer a range of services to help you comply with SASMO’s product conformity assessment (PCA) program. The categories of products that are subject to these regulations include:

  • Toys and Childcare Products
  • Electrical and Electronic Products
  • Vehicles and Automotive Components
  • Building Tools and Equipment
  • Chemical and Household Products

The aim of SASMO’s scheme is twofold. Firstly, product conformity assessments on all consignments of regulated goods for import to prevent the importation of substandard products that can endanger Syrian public health, safety and the environment. Secondly, the prices and origin of goods are verified to encourage equality of opportunity and competition in the market.

With a global network of 1000 laboratories and offices we are ideally placed to help you gain access to the Syrian marketplace by demonstrating compliance to the SASMO PCA requirements and obtain a Certificate of Conformity on completion of the assessment. Similarly we provide services related to the validation of price and origin through comparison with the prices of identical or similar goods, clarification of transaction details with the seller and producer and verification of transaction documentation.

With decades of experience managing conformity assessment programs around the world SGS offer efficient and comprehensive solutions to speed your products’ route to market, ensure quality and safety and reduce potential losses.
