SGS India, recently inaugurated a new lab in Tirupur to serve the knit city’s textile and home textile manufacturers, exporters, buyers and domestic retailers. The brand new facility located at College Road, Tirupur, was recently inaugurated by Padma Shri ,Mr. A. Sakthivel, President of the Tirupur Exporters Association. The new 30,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility houses both physical and restricted substances testing for the entire range of apparel and textile products. With increased capability of testing Azo Dyes and phthalates and enhanced restricted substance testing capabilities the lab will serve clients needing to meet requirements of international standards. The new capacity and capabilities will  lead to steep reductions in turnaround time for our customers in and around Tirupur. Additionally, with installation of an independent Effluent treatment plant, the new facility is fully compliant to Environment norms in the state.

 

Tirupur remains the hub of cotton merchandise exports to European & USA markets which clearly demonstrates the increasing demand for consumer product testing services in the region. Product safety, quality and compliance requirements of REACH & CPSIA regulations have increased chemical test parameters  in the textile supply chain. The new state-of-the-art facility has additionally equipped capabilities to address these restricted substance requirements as well as sustainability management of the textile & apparel industry.

Speaking on the opening ceremony, Dr. G.Sudesh Kumar, Director, Consumer Testing Services, SGS India said, “It has been our endeavour to be in close proximity to our customer’s businesses. A lab in Tirupur was the next logical step towards enhancing SGS India’s ever increasing footprint in India. Apart from the regular softlines testing, this lab will also enable manufacturers to launch products complying with the ever stringent REACH guidelines.” He added, “SGS India’s Tirupur lab will enable Tirupur to play an important role in the global textile market.”

SGS Tirupur laboratory has been in operation since 1996. The lab is ISO17025 accredited and fully functional in delivering testing, inspection and social responsibility services with highest level of integrity.  The expansion marks another level in bringing world class quality assurance solutions to the city of Tirupur.
