In 2003, members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) signed an agreement regulating the safety of cosmetic products traded within their member states. The goal of the agreement was twofold: to ensure the safety, quality and claimed benefits to products, and to eliminate trade barriers between member states through harmonized technical requirements.

The ASEAN Cosmetic Directive includes complex guidelines covering a number of aspects of cosmetic production including ingredients, labeling, benefit claims, and other industry standard good manufacturing practices (GMP). In order to qualify for ASEAN registration, your company should first undergo a comprehensive ASEAN safety audit by a reliable and recognized auditor.
