EU Toy Directive Technical Documentation Validation

SGS can help review your toy technical documentation and either validate its compliance to the EU Toy Safety Directive or report and advise if elements are missing or inappropriate.

One of the updated requirements of the new directive is that toy manufacturers draw up the necessary technical documentation and keep it for 10 years after the toy has been placed on the market. Our EU toy technical documentation services can ensure that your products have all the documentation they need before going to market.

The documentation must contain the relevant data used by toy manufacturers to ensure compliance, including:

  • A detailed description of the design and manufacture, including BOM (list of materials and components used in toys) and SDS (Safety Data Sheets)
  • A safety /risk assessment for each toy before it is placed on the market
  • A description of the conformity assessment procedure
  • A copy of the EC declaration of conformity (DoC)
  • Test reports
  • Addresses of places of manufacture and storage
  • A copy of EC type examination certificate (if applicable)

Our experts can help validate the technical documentation by reviewing data provided by toy manufacturers. If there are any elements missing, inappropriate or out of date, we will supply you with a full report so that you can remedy the situation. We also offer training to help you create your own technical documentation.

Because we have experts worldwide who participate in standardization committees, we are always up to date with developing toy standards. Contact SGS to find out how you can make sure your toys comply with the new EU Toy Safety Directive.
