Toy safety standards are being constantly updated and modified as new products are developed and as we better understand the risks they might pose to children. The new directive defines a new obligation that all toys must have been subject to a safety assessment and should be designed in such a way that as many hazards as possible are eliminated or that residual risk is minimized to an acceptable level.
SGS’s highly skilled toy safety experts perform safety and risk assessments of toys that will be placed onto the EU market. We provide you with a complete report including analysis of any hazard that a toy may present to a child and analysis of potential exposure to these hazards by identifying the risks.
Our experts will work with you, or your supplier, to recommend design changes at the very outset of the design process. This will help you to avoid expensive tool changes and /or product recalls later in the production chain when finished products fail to meet regulatory requirements.
The risk assessment report we deliver is an important element of your technical documentation. Make the most of our involvement at this stage in the toy’s design process and employ our experts to support you also in preparation of the declaration of conformity (DoC) that is now required, and also forms part of your technical documentation. Additionally our chemical experts can help you prepare the safety data sheets (SDS) that must also accompany the toys.
With extensive industry experience, in both local and international markets, our toy experts understand the requirements of the new EU toy directive, its impact on your business and can customize our consultancy services to meet your specific needs.
As the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company we are internationally recognized by major industry associations and accreditation bodies. Our worldwide network of industry experts have a deep understanding of toy safety regulations and guidance.
Contact SGS to find out how we can help you keep up with changes in the EU Toy Safety Directive and ensure that your products comply.
