PPE Personal Protective Equipment Certification

Personal protective equipment (PPE) requires CE marking under Directive 89/686/EEC and is compulsory for all such products on the market in the EU. The Directive aims to provide health protection and safety to users by ensuring that basic safety requirements are met.

As a Notified Body for the certification of all types of PPE we are your ideal partner for personal protective equipment certification. We are notified for Article 10 EC Type Approval and Article 11 Verification of Quality Assurance. Qualifying products, which meet the criteria of a PPE hazard assessment and testing, must carry the CE Mark.

PPE is ‘worn’ in the sense that clothing, glasses, respirators/breathing apparatus or fall arrest harnesses are worn. Indeed much PPE is clothing, be it garments, headgear, gloves or footwear. Other PPE is ‘held’ such as welding face shields. PPE is not limited to equipment for work but also for sports and leisure activities.

These products need testing and most require EC Type Examination Certification under Article 10. In addition many products which prevent loss of life also require ongoing factory audits and certification under Article 11. Our experts can help you establish your testing and certification requirements.

We can offer various PPE services:

  • Consultation  and  testing  – creation of the technical file, product testing,  assessment of PPE results and technical file prior to review by the Notified Body
  • Notified Body certification 
    •  Article 10 technical file review 
    • Article 11 Certification – 11A annual factory visit followed by product testing or 11B annual factory audit if the quality system is approximately equivalent to ISO 9001
