Ensuring that imported and exported products are safe, of the appropriate quality, compliant with regulations of importing companies and arrive on time is becoming an increasingly important and complex task.
To reduce risks, companies involved in international trade are recommended to discuss their needs with an independent quality assurance and quality control specialist, such as SGS United Kingdom Ltd.
SGS United Kingdom Ltd. provides you with a range of product inspections otherwise known as pre-shipment inspections that cover the complete product supply chain and involve visual evaluation of statistically selected samples. These services can be performed using the standard criteria of ANS1/ASQ1Z1.4 statistical sampling procedure or a similar standard is normally used. This is equivalent to BS6001.

These product inspection services can be performed on all consumer products:
Initial Production Check (IPC) This is a visual check on the quality of components, materials and finished products at the beginning of the production process. Any non-conformity found is reported immediately to both the manufacturer and the importer. This proactive service is performed when 10% of the goods have been produced.
During Production Check (DUPRO) This is a visual check on the quality of components, materials and finished products halfway through the production process. Any non-conformity found is again reported immediately to both the manufacturer and the importer. This service is performed when 25-40% of the goods have been produced.
Final Random Inspections (FRI) A detailed visual inspection of samples selected at random to check that product quality, quantity and packaging conform to samples and specifications. This inspection is carried out when the total consignment has been manufactured, and at least 80% is packed ready for export. When the results are satisfactory or within Acceptable Quality Levels (AQL), a Certificate is issued to enable the manufacturer to ship the goods and obtain payment from the bank. This service is the basic entry point into the inspection programme. Reports are normally sent to both the importer and supplier.
Loading Supervision This is a supervised loading of containers to ensure that the goods checked via a Final Random Inspection are those shipped to the importer. Containers are inspected for cleanliness and safety, and can be secured with an SGS seal after loading. This service reduces the high risk of product substitution, which exists in many countries.
