Since July 2006 the EU directive EU 2002/95/EC for the “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” (RoHS) in electrical and electronic products excludes all non-compliant products from the market.
All new products and production processes need to be monitored for the concentration of restricted substances, namely hexavalent Cr, Hg, Pb, Cd and Polybrominated Diphenylethers and Biphenylethers (PBDE and PBE). Ensuring that no limit is exceeded is a big challenge for every manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment.
