THE RoHS CONCEPT FOR RETAILERS AND IMPORTERS
Taking the complex process of manufacturing electric and electronic goods and products into consideration, it becomes necessary to have an effective Quality Management System in place. This will help manage better the whole supply chain from raw material, to components via end production stage to shipment.
The retailer, importing the goods and products into the European Union, is responsible for complying with European Regulations, such as RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC 
. It is becoming more important to have effective and sufficient test and control mechanisms in place to ensure and prove that the “imported product” meets all the necessary requirements.
The Modular RoHS Concept of SGS for retailer/importer is to take all the above mentioned into consideration and provide effective and sufficient control mechanisms to make sure that imported products meet the agreed (between the import organization and the Manufacturer) product specifications and all necessary RoHS regulations (e.g. RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC set by the European Union. Further more, this concept can be combined with all other regular inspection services and other services of the SGS Group worldwide such as Final Random Inspection (FRI), During Production Check (DuPro) or Quality/Environmental Management System Certification.
The SGS modular RoHS concept mainly consists of three modules, each of them dealing with specific items (risks) within the whole manufacturing process. The combination of various different modules enables the user to build his “tailor made” Quality & Control System taking the actual (control) needs case by case into consideration. The importer can decide whether he wants to have the full process controlled or just specific parts of the process.
The three main (basic) modules of the RoHS concept are:

- RoHS Factory Inspection/Audit
