Decorative candles, fragranced candles, incense sticks, candleholders, candles intended for indoor use like oil lamps. These trendy items are considered as a risky products category. There is an increase in related accidents such as household fires, property damage and burn injuries.

Voted in October 2007, the European standards for safety of candles are expected to become effective in 2008. These standards cover the fire safety (EN 15 493), labelling requirements (EN 15494) and safety of soot release (EN 15426).
