MECHANICAL AUGER SAMPLING SYSTEMS

Whenever and wherever sampling is required, SGS will provide the highest level of sampling integrity to produce the most representative sample for further analytical testing. Since the 1930s, SGS has gained the knowledge and technical expertise to conduct auger sampling. Collecting representative samples of coal can be difficult because large static piles of the coal are transported in a truck or railcar. This limits access to only the surface layer of the coal. However, it is still vital to collect representative samples.

Auger samplers allow the collection of a vertical sample through the full depth of the pile. This provides an accurate sample of the entire load before it is dumped or mixed.

SGS offers two different types of auger sampling systems:

1. Truck or rail-mounted mobile auger sampler. This sampler can go to rail sidings, port areas and inside plant coal yards.
2. Stationary coal auger system. These units are very economical for longer-term projects such as sampling feed-stations of preparation plants or incoming truck reception points at a terminal or plant.

Both systems can be fitted with augers of varying diameters and lengths to meet individual coal requirements for top size and depth of sampling. Both can be easily fitted with sub-systems to allow the processing of the sample through efficient crushing and the division of samples immediately after collection.
