Analytical Laboratory Technician

We have the following openings based out of our office in Lakefield (Peterborough), Ontario.

OUR OFFER
Working in the Minerals section, the successful candidate(s) will be accountable for ensuring:

  • Digestion of samples and standard selection is adequate for type of sample and analysis requested.
  • Appropriate protocols are followed in the analysis and reporting of a variety of sample types i.e. matrix compatibility, interference etc.
  • Data quality objectives are met for analysis and reporting of data for final approval.
  • Calibration and check solution standards are current and properly documented.
  • Maintenance, Optimization and other protocols are followed and documented as outlined in SOP’s.
  • Experience in classical ‘wet’ chemistry methods: titrations (colour end-points and potentiometric end-points), gravimetric finishes, electroplating, volumetric analysis
  • Basic lab skills a must: pipetting, dilutions, weighing on a balance, filtration
  • Experience using the following equipment would be highly valuable: UV Spectrophotometer, Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, ICP-OES
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practices, i.e. health and safety, working with acids and other potentially harmful reagents

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The Ideal Candidate(s) will possess a Community College Diploma or B.SC. (Preferably in Chemistry or related discipline) and 1-2 years laboratory experience.
  • New University/College graduates (B.Sc., CET) will be considered for these positions.
  • Candidates must be well organized, safety-conscious and able to work overtime and shifts (could include 24/7, very competitive shift premiums provided).  
  • Some opportunities require lifting, and a high degree of mobility to perform essential functions of the job.  
  • Good communication skills, multi-tasking capabilities, strong mathematics skills (dilutions & calculations) and working knowledge of LIMS will be a definite advantage in addition to a positive attitude.
